Acupuncture treatment has been around for thousands of years, as a safe, natural and effective method of health care. Acupuncture works to improve a variety of health conditions, such as chronic low back pain, depression, ADHD, and improve digestive disorders. If you are looking for holistic approach toward health care, give acupuncture a try!
How does Acupuncture Work?
Acupuncture works by stimulating specific acupuncture points over the body. Typically, acupuncture points are stimulated through needle insertion, however acupuncturist's can also use magnets, moxa, body work, and non-insertive (needle-free) acupuncture techniques. The effects of acupuncture will take some time to improve acute and chronic symptoms. While you may experience some symptom or pain relief immediately, it is suggested that acupuncture works best when given time. National Institutes of Health states that “You can't expect that one session will tell you whether acupuncture works or not.”
Japanese Style Acupuncture:
Japanese style acupuncture uses thinner acupuncture needles, and a gentler needling technique with shallow needle insertion. Japanese style acupuncture relies on palpation of the abdomen, back and various pulses throughout the body. On the other hand, Chinese acupuncture has a "heavier approach" with needling techniques and is more reliant on "visual diagnosis", an example would be tongue diagnosis. Western medicine and Japanese acupuncture, typically have closer approach to health care, as many of the diagnosis tools can be similar (i.e. monitoring pulse, abdomen, and pain).
Is Japanese Style Acupuncture for me?
If you have received acupuncture before and the effects of acupuncture were "too much" or "too stimulating" emotionally or physically, it is very likely you experience a Chinese acupuncture style.
